We work to make it as simple as possible to start and run a business. Together with other organisations, we also help prevent companies from being used as tools for crime.

Our core mission

The Swedish Companies Registration Office is responsible for matters relating to the registration of company information. This includes examining whether submitted matters meet the requirements for registration and providing society with company information from our registers.

The Swedish Companies Registration Office must actively work to ensure that the information in our registers is accurate and reflects actual circumstances. We must check that information reported to us is correct when we register it. We must also check existing information in our registers through subsequent checks.

When carrying out these checks, we may use information obtained through cooperation with other government authorities or information held in our registers.

Our responsibilities also include ensuring that no information is entered in our registers unless we have a legal basis for doing so, and ensuring information security and continuity of the information in our registers.

The Swedish Companies Registration Office must ensure that the regulations and procedures within our control are cost-effective and simple for citizens and businesses.

We must provide services and information that are tailored to users’ needs and easy to understand.

We must design our procedures and regulations so that businesses can get things right from the start and provide as little information as necessary. Preventing economic crime

The Swedish Companies Registration Office must minimise the risk of our procedures being exploited for economic crime. We may use information obtained through cooperation with other government authorities or information held in our registers to prevent economic crime.

We must carry out in-depth reviews when there are grounds to examine information from a crime prevention perspective and inform law enforcement authorities of suspected irregularities.

We must also cooperate and share information with other government authorities to prevent economic crime. Our procedures must provide legal certainty and be accessible to those who need them in their work.

About the authority

The Swedish Companies Registration Office is based in Sundsvall and is largely fee-funded. This means that most of our operations are not financed by taxes; instead, we charge fees for our services.
